Thala Beach Nature Reserve is located on a private headland surrounded by World-Heritage-Listed reef and rainforest. Located 15 minutes south of Port Douglas, Thala's 58 hectares of native forest backs onto a secluded beach with breathtaking vistas of the Coral Sea. Unwind in nature while still being within easy access to explore the Great Barrier Reef, Port Douglas and the Daintree Rainforest.
The Main Lodge is where you will find Reception, Adventure Desk, Art Gallery and the Rainforest Lounge. The Gift Shop stocks a range of products from local suppliers, holiday essentials, souvenirs and gifts. The main swimming pool features waterfalls, spas and grottos for that late night romantic swim and sun lounges are dotted around beneath shady trees. The "Rock Pool" is a smaller and more intimate swimming pool for guests looking for a quiet grove in which to relax. Over 2km of private access sandy beaches and sheltered coves are perfect for evening walks, beach picnics or relaxing in hammocks strung between palm trees. A network of marked walking trails meander through native forest and palm groves.
Thala's five star eco-accommodation consists of 83 individual timber bungalows built high on stilts within the forest canopy providing a private and unobtrusive approach to nature. Each bungalow features Australian timber and granite throughout, air-conditioning, screened windows and sublime ocean, mountain or forest views. Timber-decked verandahs provide ample opportunity for relaxing and wildlife spotting.
Guests enjoy complimentary guided nature tours by onsite rangers including stargazing at an outdoor observatory, wildlife and bird-watching tours. A totally organic 650-tree coconut plantation is home to a unique Coconut Odyssey tour highlighting the extraordinary qualities of the ‘tree of life’. A shuttle bus service to Port Douglas departs reception regularly at a cost of $10pp one way (prices subject to change) and taxis are also available. Airport transfers and tour operators pickup and dropoff guests by pre-arrangement.

How to Get Here
From Cairns Airport, turn right onto Captain Cook Highway and travel north for approx 45-50 minutes. A highway sign on the left indicates Thala Beach Lodge 400m. Turn right onto the private road to the entrance and follow the road up the hill to the main lodge and reception area. The Porter will valet park your car on arrival and take care of your luggage.
